This begonia is 50 years old and was owned by a mother and daughter who both passed. The way it presses its leaves against the window is inspiring to me.

For me, the bowl as a symbol represents the idea of receptivity, of allowing myself to receive goodness into my life, my body, my experience. I felt drawn to these tangled bushes.

I stumbled upon this tomato amongst the cacti in the Mission district in San Francisco. You could see the indentations from the cacti in the skin of the tomato and I couldn’t help but feel this still life setting resonate in my body.

My self-portrait work explores my healing process, intuitively and in relationship to place. Through these photos, I enact aspects of my unconscious as a living ritual, to both make visible what is unseen and to also integrate it into my consciousness; to make whole what is fragmented.

This photo felt like it belonged in this series, though I didn’t do anything except happen upon it. The idea of ‘the black bag’ is one by the author Robert Bly. The black bag is a metaphor for the disowned parts of our psyche that we store in the unconscious. So it was with humor that I related to this large pile of black bags. I felt rather hopeful about the red tie that was visible.
